Mark 10 ends with Jesus leaving the city of Jericho on His way to Jerusalem. Mark 11 begins with Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem for the final time as a man. The last six chapters of Mark’s letters cover the final week of Jesus’ life. The least detailed account of Jesus’ life gives great detail to the final days, the final teaching, the final fellowship and the final purpose of Jesus’ incarnation, His death on the cross and resurrection from the dead. All of this finality begins with Jesus’ ride into Jerusalem on a donkey, a very purposed moment in time that can easily be overlooked if we are not careful to recognize that the triumphal entry is not something that happened to Jesus but rather it was initiated and controlled by Jesus. He orchestrated His entry into Jerusalem, in the same manner that He followed the Father in all of His actions, Jesus followed the Father in this and He fulfilled the Scriptures and once again revealed Himself to those that were willing to watch and listen as the Messiah. I want us to see carefully that this is not a crowd announcing Jesus nearly as much as it is Jesus announcing Himself to the crowd.
