“We Are the Stones,” Luke 19:28-40

This Sunday is what we traditionally call “Palm Sunday.” And it marks the triumphal entry into Jerusalem when Jesus made his trip there to celebrate the passover with his apostles, but to do so much more than we know in hindsight. As far as they knew, they were just on their way to Jerusalem for the next passover. They’ve already celebrated at least a couple of them together and now they were celebrating the next one. But what we know from Scripture is that Jesus was on his way not just to celebrate the passover, but to become the passover lamb. He was on his way to die for sin, to crush the head of the serpent and then rise again, holding the keys to death and hades. Some would like to say that was the beginning of the end, but when we look at Scripture we can see that this was just the end of the beginning. These are Jesus’ last steps before the cross, his last steps before redemption was purchased, before the veil was torn, before the cross became the power of the saving. This is where so much of the book of Hebrews was actually accomplished…

In today’s sermon, “We Are the Stones,” Pastor Abie Kulynych looks into two accounts of the triumphal entry of Jesus in Matthew and Luke to understand what Jesus did and for us to start to obey what he said.
