Mark 6:13

This morning we will take a close look at temptation. Temptation is a fact of life; we have a sinful nature and live in a sinful world. This fact is something we have to come to grips with but I don’t believe it is something that is supposed to cause us fear or shame. Every human being that has ever lived has endured temptation. The Apostle Paul wrote in I Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man.” Whatever you have been are being or will be tempted by is common to man, meaning you are being tempted because you are human. Even Jesus, the Son of God, fully divine while also fully human experienced and endured temptation. Being tempted does not make us weak, it doesn’t make us wrong and it doesn’t deem us as failures, it simply makes us human. Today we are going to attempt to answer two main questions, “What is temptation?” and once we have allowed the Scripture to define it for us, “How do we overcome temptation?”
