Jesus’ teaching about marriage, divorce and God’s grace in response to the condition of our hearts is immediately followed by another rebuke of the disciples for not understanding of His leadership, a lesson on the true requirement of faith and then a sad revelation of how easily our hearts can become dependent upon lesser loves. Tonight we will take on one of Jesus’ most important declarations “whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” What does that mean? How do we apply it to our hearts and our lives and what does it look like to have the faith of a child? Immediately after this point is made it is illustrated through the life of a man that desperately wants to enter God’s kingdom but ultimately is unwilling to become a child in the terms that Jesus requires. I pray that we will listen closely to Jesus’ voice through His Word tonight and that we will examine our hearts and ask the Holy Spirit to show us how to have the faith of a little child.
