This morning we continue our journey through the book of John. Our text, John 2:23-25 tells us that the miracles or “signs” that Jesus was performing in Jerusalem were causing people to begin to “believe in Him”. While Jesus was being believed in as the Messiah, John wrote that Jesus did not “commit Himself” to those who had this initial belief. What does this mean? Was Jesus rejecting initial belief, were those watching not believing enough or is John trying to show us something greater about Jesus, about His life, His mission and His reason for doing everything that He does? Today we will discuss the question “Why?” and I pray that we will begin to see that Jesus’ knowledge of our hearts determines His movement in our lives and that the motivation for all of His signs, wonders and miracles is not that He would be recognized but that the love and character of His Father would be known.
