As Peter ends his second letter, he brings us back to where he started, calling the church to find that all they need in the knowledge of Jesus is found in the Word of God. Sometimes our desire for something new robs us of the truth we have already been given. No one sets out to be a false teacher, but Peter showed how false teachers used God’s people to satisfy their own desires and fulfill their own last; they tried to stretch the Word rather than being satisfied in it. Knowing Jesus only comes from His Word. Through His Word, Jesus has provided all that we need.
