Why does God speak? What is the purpose behind His voice? God doesn’t just desire to be heard, He desires, even demands, to be followed. When God speaks, things happen. He speaks for us to follow. And following requires a surrender, to put our complete trust in the hands of Christ. It means that we surrender our desires and wants so that we have room to hear from God. It means that even when we face trouble, we don’t give up, but trust Christ to take us through. It means being devoted to His word. The Word of God teaches about the character of God so that we can follow Jesus and be made like Him. We cannot be guided if we are not following. The only way to become like Jesus is to go with Jesus. This morning I pray that we would take an honest look at our own hearts and ask ourselves “are we following?”
