In the book of John there are seven miracles of Jesus that John calls “signs”. These are miracles that point to Jesus’ identity as the Messiah and reveal His glory as the Son of God. We are going to spend the next seven weeks going through these “signs” one by one to see Jesus more clearly. Too often when we read Scripture we read it for ourselves. We search it to see how we fit, to find the answers to our questions and the road to our destiny, but Scripture was not written so we could see ourselves more clearly it was written to reveal Jesus, to show Him in all of His glory and power and so that we could decrease by increasing in our vision of Him.

Our second message in this series finds it’s text in John 4:43-54 and contrasts faith that believes in power versus faith that trusts in a person. Jesus’ power was rarely disputed in the gospels. There were disputes over His authority and the origins of His power, but the existence of it was difficult if not impossible to deny. What we find in this passage is that many gathered around Jesus to see what He would do, but few followed Jesus because of who He was. Faith that believes God is able helps us but it will not sustain us when God’s will is different from our understanding, it is faith in Him as God, in His character, faithfulness, goodness and love that carries us from glory to glory and that enables us to trust Him when our circumstances are far different than we had expected or hoped.

In this message we talk about three specific ways or reasons that Jesus is glorified:

1. Jesus is glorified in that He goes to those who dishonor Him.

2. Jesus is glorified by the fact that He does not merely perform signs, He is the Sign.

3. Jesus is glorified in and through the lives of those who believe in Him.

Our calling is to move beyond being those that plead to see His glory to those who reflect the glory of God. I pray today that we will allow the Holy Spirit to put away our inglorious ways of thinking and to lead us into paths of righteousness in which all is for the glory of God through the revelation of Jesus.
