As Peter brought his second letter to a close he reminded his readers of something that many of us have either never known or have chosen to forget, the heavens will pass away and the earth as we know it, with everything in it will be destroyed with fire. The day of the Lord is coming, it’s a day of vindication, vengeance and deliverance. It’s a day the prophets foretold, Jesus promised, and the apostles hoped for. It’s a day that Peter says we are supposed to look for and even hasten its coming. It’s a day that we must understand, because it’s the day that is supposed to determine how we live until it arrives. Tonight, we are going to be discussing the day of the Lord, what is it, when will it be and why does it matter.
