Our first few verses tonight close out the section of the letter that proclaims Jesus as our superior High Priest and superior Sacrifice of the new covenant. Christ’s death was once for all, His priestly offering was accepted and His priestly work was finished, so He sat down at the right hand of God to ever make intercession for us. He didn’t cover our sins until the next sacrifice; He took away our sins with His one and only sacrifice. There is no other name by which men can be saved and there is no other blood that can cleanse man of sin. After finishing this section of the letter the author then turns his attention back to our response, stirring our faith, challenging those that have come dangerously near giving up and encouraging those that are being tossed by the troubles of this world.
