Seek God for the City: Day 29

Originaly Posted on March 17, 2010

Over the next 40 days City of Refuge Fellowship is joining with thousands of other believers around the world in a prayer focus called Seek God for the City.

Seek God for the City is a prayer guide “designed to help everyday believers pray beyond their daily needs and further than their fears. ” We are joining together to ask God to do supernatural things in the city of Burlington. We invite you to join with us in praying for Burlington and for your community.

Each day we will post the daily prayer theme and a prayer highlight from the day.

Week 4: Seeking His righteousness in our communities

Day 29: Seek God for His Spirit to empower His people

Father, “Send Your Spirit upon Your people. Plant seeds of hope in the hearts of the downcast. Cause them to grow quickly and spread widely, implanting righteousness where there was none. Raise them up to rebuild the devastated communities, even those considered dead for many generations.”

Day of Prayer for National Leaders

Originaly Posted on March 16, 2010

We have set aside every Tuesday as a day of prayer for our National leaders: President Obama, the Senate and the Congress. Each week we present a specific focus, birthed from Scripture, that we can agree and pray together.

Father,  I pray that every decision our National Leaders make comes into agreement with Your Word and Your plans and purpose for our nation. I pray that they would submit to the authority of Christ and allow Christ to be their head.

When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when a wicked man rules the people groan. Proverbs 29:2

Therefore, I will exhort that first of all supplication, prayers, intercessions, and giving thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may live quiet and peaceable lives in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior.  I Timothy 2:1-3

Risk and Reward: Hope

Originaly Posted on March 15, 2010

When our hope is in Christ we have the courage to trust, obey and follow Him. We daily have opportunities to walk in the hope of God’s love and His promises for our lives or to be distracted by the circumstances that we don’t understand and can’t control. Number 13 tells us about the 12 spies that were sent to spy out the Promised Land before Israel entered in. Ten of those spies returned and announced that the land was good, it was fruitful and it was everything God had promised, but those good things were not enough to keep them from putting their attention on the obstacles they saw. They reported that the cities were large and fortified, that the armies were strong and that there were even giants in the land. Ten of those spies determined that while the land was what God had promised, the obstacles were too large, they could not go in and possess the land.

Joshua and Caleb, the other two spies saw the exact same things but they put their attention on the promises and goodness of God rather than the obstacles. They were adamant, not that  there were no obstacles but rather that God would overcome the obstacles for them. Our lives will be filled with moments like these, moments in which we have to decide if we will trust and hope in God’s greatness or succumb to our fear and the circumstances around us. Hope gives us the strength to risk difficulty and hardship knowing that God will do what He has said He would do.

I pray today that we will remember these three things about hope and walk forward into being risk-takers for the Kingdom of God:

1. Hope starts with a promise

2. Hope is always tested

3. Hope always produces a reward

Don’t shrink back today, don’t give up and don’t live in fear or safety; hope in God, trust in His love and step out in faith. There is a risk to be taken for the Kingdom of God and there is a reward to be reaped through obedience. “Hope does not disappoint.”

Lord Jesus, “One man reported to his own people the things You did for him. The message went beyond his household so that the whole city heard. Do this same thing in our city. May one relay the gospel to another, and then throughout their households. Resound the word through neighborhoods and networks of friends. Fill our entire community with fresh tellings of the gospel. And from our city, send the message to every place You want it to go on earth.”
